Celebration of Global Astronomy Month – April 2019

Regional Science Centre & Planetarium, Calicut has joined the global astronomical community ‘Astronomy without Boarder – AWB’ towards celebration of Global Astronomy Month during April 2019 with variety of astronomy programmes aspiring large scale public participation. The programme details are mentioned below:

Public awareness programme illustrating the disappearance of starry night sky due to light pollution

April 7 ( 7 pm – 8:30 pm)

*Side Walk Astronomy@ Near Mofussil Bus stand

Member of public on public places will be given an opportunity to observed bright astronomical objects through telescope

April 10 – 30 (10:30 am to 6:00 pm)

Astro Image Exhibition@ Planetarium

Large size display of artistic aspect of astronomy at Planetarium

April 10 – 16

( 7 pm – 9 pm)

Moon Observation – Moon Mapping

Public awareness programme for understanding the physical features of the moon like Marias, Craters, Terminators etc.

April 11 (7 pm onwards)

Workshop: ‘Astrophotography’

Participants will be exposed to basics of Astrophotography.

 

April 17 ( 2 pm – 5 pm)

Workshop: Construction of Simple Low Cost Refractor Telescopes

People will construct their own telescopes and learn about the basics of telescopes

 

April 18 ( 7 pm – 8:30 pm)

*Side Walk Astronomy@ Near Calicut Beach

Member of public on public places will be given a opportunity to observed bright astronomical objects through telescope

April 20 (Saturday) from 7 pm onwards to April 21 (Sunday), 5 am

Malabar Star Party 2019

This is a full night astronomical extravaganza consisting of mid night planetarium shows, Constellation Voyage, Deep sky object observation using telescopes, Astronomical film shows, Jupiter Cake cutting, Guided tour to Astronomy Gallery etc

(Wednesday) (2 pm – 6 pm)

Workshop: Painting of Astronomical Objects

Participants will be taught to draw and paint astronomical images.

 

April 25 (Thursday) ( 10:30 am to 4:30 pm)

Workshop: Astronomy model making

Participants will be taught to make few astronomical models.

 

April 27 (Saturday) (7 pm onwards)

Astronomy Inspired Poetry and Songs

A platform for public to recite a poem Or sing a song RELATED/ CONNECTED TO ASTRONOMICAL OBJECTS like Sun, Moon , Stars etc under planetarium sky

 

*Only these programmes are FREE

 

 

Interested people can REGISTER for the GAM 2019 programme by paying an amount of Rs. 1000/- at the planetarium. Astronomy Kits, Participation certificate, Meals (where ever applicable) will be provided to the registered participants
